It is with deep sadness and regret that we announce that our dear friend and bandmate Kenny Shields has passed away quietly and peacefully early this morning at the St. Boniface General Hospital in Winnipeg MB.
By his side were his wife Elena, his daughter Julia and his sister Sharlene.
Our thanks to the caring and compassionate staff at the St. B for all the dignity and comfort that they provided for Kenny and his family throughout this difficult time.
We are most grateful to each and every one of you for all the love, support and hope you have extended towards Kenny and his family over these last few weeks. We know personally how much that meant to Kenny and, that your kindness contributed to his inner peace in the end.
We will keep you all updated as we move forward.
Live your life. Love your life and, enjoy every moment of your life with the ones you love.
RIP our dear brother.
You will be missed.
You will never be forgotten.
Looking forward to seeing many of our friends and fans on Aug 29th. as the members of Streetheart and special guests pay tribute to the legacy of the legendary Kenny Shields. Our sincere thanks for everyone’s continued love and support for Kenny during this time.
I am very sad to report that due to the seriousness of Kenny Shields health issues, we have had to cancel the entire 2017 tour schedule for Kenny Shields and Streetheart.
I shall be as transparent as I can while maintaining a respectful measure of discretion regarding Kenny’s privacy…
Kenny, as some of you may know and many have speculated on, has a very sick heart. In lay terms, he has approximately 20% efficiency on the left side of his heart which has caused his right side to become damaged in an attempt to compensate. This has created a dangerous buildup of fluid in his lungs along with other serious internal issues. If not for emergency surgery on Monday by a group of highly skilled and compassionate physicians at the St. Boniface Hospital and the Victoria General Hospital, Kenny would likely not be with us today.
We are most thankful for all that they did to achieve the best possible outcome in this situation.
Kenny is currently out of grave danger but will be in recovery for some time.
He will no longer be able to fly or endure the physical demands of being on the road and playing live shows which brings us to this difficult end point.
We have been dealing with this for some time now. We were hoping that we could make one last run this year to say goodbye to all our dear friends and fans who have supported us over the last 40 years.
I am sorry that we will not be able to do that now.
I know that you all wish Kenny the very best and I will continue to keep you informed.
I will keep you up to date on Kenny’s progress as best as I can but for now I am just so sorry we can’t be there to share this last summer with you.
Live your life. Love your life and enjoy every moment of it with the ones you love.
Time gets precious when there’s less of it to waste. Jeff Neill xox

We are very grateful for all the support we are receiving for KS&S’s last year of shows and we will continue to book as many shows as we can across Canada to see as many of you as possible before the year is through. Have a great week everyone and we hope to have some new dates to post for you by weeks end! Photo courtesy of Greg Malo.
In celebration of 40 years of R&R we thought we’d share this wonderful photo with you taken backstage at The Pacific Coliseum in Vancouver BC, January of 1982. Streetheart was out on tour across Western Canada in support of their best selling “Streetheart” album. The boys were paid a post show visit from their friends Loverboy who were just off the road themselves and riding high on the huge success of “Get Lucky”. L/R in the back row, George Martin, (we don’t know the name of the fellow in this photo next to George), Paul Dean, Ted Ewasiuk, Daryl Gutheil, Jeff Neill and Scott Smith (RIP). In the middle, Ken “Spider” Sinnaeve, Rob Morrow (RIP), Bob Ego and Matthew Frenette. Up front Kenny Shields and Mike Reno hamming it up for the camera! Two great bands, still going strong, connected by a long history and by friendship. Great days and great memories… still being made!
This final year of Kenny Shields and Streetheart shows is off to a great start and we want to thank you all for the positive support we have been receiving night after night. It is such a privilege to be able to see you all again and we have had many requests to add repeat dates before the year is over. We will be doing all we can to accommodate as many of these requests as our schedule will allow. We want to make sure that we reach as many of our fans as possible before the year is done. We currently have a number of shows in the works that we will post here… http://www.streetheart.ca/?post_type=audiotheme_gig&year=2017 as soon as they become solid. Here’s a photo of some of our good friends at our recent show in Brandon MB courtesy of KS&S bassist Bruce Jacobs.
We want to say thank you to every single one of our great fans in Winnipeg for once again, rockin’ the house and helping us create an unforgettable night of R&R memories. This final year has been pretty special so far and Thursday night was no exception! Our thanks to Jay Pauley and his staff, the legendary Howard Mandshein for creating the perfect setting to build a rock and roll night to remember on and, to everyone of you who came by to say hi at the meet and greet after the show.
Having Streetheart alumni Ken “Spider” Sinnaeve sit in with us was a moment for the ages and certainly one of the highlights of the year for us. Thank you Spider from sharing your good vibes and your incredible talent with us. It was a great honour for us to be able to play some music with you once again!
Hope you all have a great weekend wherever you are!
